Myths And Lies In Athletic Recruiting

Athletic Recruiting! What are the myths and outright propaganda lies involved in collegiate level sports recruiting activities?

Is a College Athletic Scholarship your dream? Do you know anything about athletic recruiting? Do you know how to go about getting an athletic scholarship? Have you heard that it is tough to land that prized college athletic scholarship?

It is totally within the realm of possibility, but it is not easy. It is a fact that thousands upon thousands get one each year. Is it worth the time, effort, and energy it takes to get one? YES, OF COURSE, IT IS!

Myth #1… You are not an Elite Athlete, so you can't get a college athletic scholarship. This is pure bunk!

Sure, there are some blue chip athletes that do get hounded by the college coaches; the coaches visit, the letters come, the scholarship offers are made, and there is a big time TV signing event.

And all this hoopla happens with the athlete doing nothing more than just participating in games. This kind of attention does not happen all that often!

A 'blue chip' athlete you're not, now what? Should you throw in the towel and consider your sports career over? Absolutely not! An overwhelming number of collegiate athletes DO NOT fall into the elite category.

Myth #2…There isn't very much athletic recruiting activity going on in small towns, so you won't have an opportunity to go for a scholarship. This is just more garbage, don't believe it!

It does make it somewhat more difficult if you live in a small town. Don't be the least bit discouraged though, because you can still show case your talents to athletic recruiting in many other ways.

Attend the summer athletic camps at the universities where you think you would like to play. Perform well in tournaments, games against larger schools, and championship games.

Myth #3 …Your playing level does not begin to match the athletes you see playing at the college games on TV, so you can't get recruited. This is some more rubbish talk! Of course, you can play at the college level, let me tell you why.

The college athletes you see on TV are usually playing at the Division I level which is the most competitive level of play.

In fact, some college athletic scholarships go begging at the NCAA II, III, NAIA, and Junior College schools.

Myth #4… Hey, I know nothing about athletic recruiting, so I won't have a snow ball's chance in a hot place of getting a college athletic scholarship.

It is a known fact, that doing nothing may be the worst thing you can do. Take the time and make the effort to get an education about athletic recruiting. Discover what you can do to help yourself.

Myth #5 … The money involved in getting recruited is too much; I don't have that kind of money.

Yes, there are many athletic recruiting services that charge thousands to help in securing athletic scholarships.

Most families and most athletes can't get their hands on the thousands it would take to hire one of these companies.
